Kate Killeen Design

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most about working with Kate Killeen Design, a boutique luxury interior design studio in Naples, Florida.

What makes Kate Killeen Design a boutique interior design studio?

Being a boutique studio means depth over volume and relationships over transactions. We intentionally limit the number of projects we take on each year, so Kate stays personally involved from the first conversation to the final installation, and the designer whose name is on the door leads your project from day one.

Where do you work?

Our design studio is in Naples, Florida, and we work with homeowners across Southwest Florida and nationwide. Our portfolio includes homes in Naples, Tampa and Southern California, and a commercial project in Maui.

Can you design my home if I don’t live nearby?

Yes. With our digital design service you can work with us from anywhere. It starts with a short questionnaire and a one-on-one call. Once we have your space’s measurements, we create a design presentation with a floor plan, mood board, rendering and a personalized list of furnishings and fixtures.

What is your design process?

Every project starts with you: an initial interview to understand your lifestyle, your priorities and what matters most to you. Next we measure your space, create a space plan and select materials, finishes, furnishings and fabrics, with 3D renderings so you can see the design before any work begins. Finally comes installation day, when Kate and her team set the stage for your final reveal.

How are your design fees structured?

Design and creative work is billed as a flat fee, paid in four installments as the project moves through each phase. Once the design is finalized, procurement, vendor coordination and admin are billed separately as a procurement fee, with a built-in retainer for the anticipated hours. If procurement takes less time than expected, you get the difference back.

Your design fee is separate from your project budget, which covers furniture, fixtures, finishes and construction. What Does Full Service Interior Design Cost? walks through it in detail.

How long does a project take?

Every project is different, and the timeline depends on its scope. Custom furnishings often have lead times of 12 to 20 weeks, so we track every order and sequence deliveries with your contractor so nothing arrives before your space is ready for it.

Do you provide construction or architectural drawings?

Our design plans are conceptual and not intended for construction. Kate Killeen Design is not a licensed contractor and does not provide architectural, plumbing or mechanical plans. We work alongside your builder or contractor, with ongoing site visits to make sure the design is executed as planned.

Do you work on new construction and custom homes?

Yes. Our full-service interior design is ideal if you’re building a custom home, from layouts and lighting plans to millwork, finishes and furnishings, so the finished home feels like it could only belong to you. Can you help me find my design style?

Absolutely. Take our Design Style Quiz for a quick start, or read How to Understand Your Design Style & Make It Work for You. Defining a style that feels authentically yours is part of every project we take on.

How do I get started?
