“Fewer projects. Closer attention. That’s the whole strategy.” – Kate Killeen

Honestly? Staying small was never a phase — it’s the whole plan.

To me, being a boutique interior design studio means depth over volume, relationships over transactions, and staying personally involved from first conversation to final installation. Kate Killeen Design was never built to be the biggest firm in the room – it was built to deliver the kind of experience we believe every client deserves.

Boutique Is a Choice, Not a Limitation

High-stakes residential projects require more than beautiful ideas. They require listening, judgment, communication, and someone willing to stay close enough to the details to protect the larger vision – this is hard to sustain at high volume. So…we simply don’t try to.

We intentionally limit the number of projects we take on each year to deliver the kind of high touch service we believe exceptional homes deserve.
.

Real Talk: That isn’t a marketing line. It’s a decision I make on purpose, every year.

One Relationship, Start to Finish

Our promise to clients is simple: the relationship you build at the beginning of your project is the relationship you will have throughout it. We believe that continuity creates confidence. And confidence leads to better decisions.

When you are planning a custom home, whole-home renovation, or major furnishing project, there are hundreds of decisions ahead. Some are aesthetic. Many are practical. Almost all will affect budget, timing, and how your home functions for years.

Important decisions deserve consistency. They deserve context. They deserve someone who remembers why the conversation started in the first place.

Fewer Projects, Deeper Attention

Good design needs room to think — space to reconsider a fabric at 11pm, or sit with a floor plan until the right answer shows up.

Having a more focused studio allows us to stay closer to the work. It allows me (personally) to understand the family, the home, the architecture, the budget, the builder, and the decisions still ahead.

That closeness is the quiet work you may never see, but you’ll most certainly feel.

Here’s My Take

Honestly, I’ve never believed more volume makes a better business. For this kind of work, it’s usually the opposite.

The most successful home projects are shaped through thoughtful decisions made in the right order – and that takes close attention, not scale.

That’s the real reason I choose to keep Kate Killeen Design a boutique studio.

A Home That Reflects You, Not a Formula

When I know the people I’m designing for, the work gets personal — shaped by your routines, your habits, and simply…

Your life.

That’s why our design process is all about discovering what’s important in your world — your routines, your priorities, and your family. The things that never make it onto a mood board.

My goal is not for your home to look like our last project. The goal is for it to feel as though it could not belong to anyone else.

That is where boutique service becomes especially valuable.

Nimble When the Project Needs It

Every project hits a moment (or two) when something shifts — a discontinued fabric, a site surprise, a lead time that throws off the schedule.

Those moments don’t need drama. They need clear thinking.

When the person making the tough calls is close to the work, there’s less distance between the question and the answer.

One Thing I’d Like You to Remember

Boutique doesn’t mean small in size. It means high-touch from start to finish.

The Takeaway

Real Talk: Our business model may not be the right fit for every homeowner. Some people are looking for the resources of a larger organization with multiple teams and broader capacity. Right on — you do you…

Others may be looking for a more personal experience: a collaborative relationship where the designer whose name is on the storefront is the same designer leading the work from day one.

I intentionally built Kate Killeen Design for those clients. If this sounds like you, I’d love to talk…

I only take on a select number of projects at a time. Contact me to start yours.
