Project Ministry

Project Ministry began with a family building a second home for gathering throughout the next several decades — not a showpiece, but a landing place for two generations, four grandchildren, and a lot of shared meals and memories. Kate Killeen Design was tasked with designing the entire home, from great room and dining areas to the primary and guest suites. There was one clear brief guiding every decision: keep it comfortable, keep it approachable and never make anyone feel like they have to be careful in their own home.

The palette leans soft and serene — blues and greens grounded with warm pops of orange and yellow — carried through a rustic-coastal material story that reads clean without ever feeling cold. In the great room, deep, family-scaled seating gathers around the television with room for a large crowd. An expandable dining table stretches to fit a large family and church community, then collapses back down for a quiet Tuesday just the two of them. The master suite boasts a Cal King bed with custom bedding of serene blues and greens, and a generous walk-in shower for two. Off the primary suite, a screened lanai extends the living space outdoors, its automated shades doing double duty as sun control and storm protection being a point to plan for.

Every material was chosen to withstand real life rather than just photograph well. Selected materials are durable and easily cleaned with selected furniture built for long-term lounging. Smart shades and lighting woven in throughout so the home runs quietly into the background. In the den, a half-wall of bookshelves carves out a private office without closing the room off from the rest of the house — a small but impactful piece in the design plan.

The result is a home built for exactly the kind of beautiful chaos good memories are made of: grandchildren underfoot, a messy table on major holidays, and a house that never once asks anyone to slow down.
