Kate Killeen Design

Kate Killeen isn’t your typical Naples interior designer — and the private-client standard behind her studio is exactly why.

“My career didn’t start in design. I started in a field where good enough gets you quietly replaced. I wouldn’t change a thing about my journey.” — Kate Killeen

Honestly? I did not grow up dreaming of furniture plans, like many other designers out there.

Yes, I said that out loud.

Before I ever argued with a tile supplier on a client’s behalf (a skill I have since honed to an art form), I spent years advising high-end private clients — the kind of work where the stakes are real, the expectations are very specific, and “good enough” is the phrase that ends careers. It was a world built on trust, discretion, and the unglamorous discipline of doing exactly what you said you’d do — every time.

When I founded KKD in Naples FL, I didn’t leave that world behind – I brought it with me, wholesale. Let me explain…

San Francisco, 2011. Corporate life — where I learned that ‘good enough’ gets you quietly replaced.

Discretion Isn’t a Feature. It’s the Floor.

When you’re advising private clients, you figure out fast that you’re not just trusted with a task. You’re trusted with information. With access. With a very clear, very unfiltered view of how someone actually lives — the version that doesn’t make it onto Instagram.

I learned to protect my clients’ personal life. Automatically. Without being asked.

Designing exceptional homes is shockingly intimate. I know what clients splurge on and what you’d never admit to. I’ve seen the room that’s a disaster and the one you’re secretly proud of. I learn your bad habits, your good habits, and everything in between.

None of that leaves the room. Discretion isn’t something I lead with — it’s just the baseline I’ve built everything else on.

Anticipation Trumps Reaction — What Naples Clients Deserve

The best advisors I’ve ever known weren’t impressive because of how fast they responded. They were impressive because half the time, they’d already handled it.

I learned to read what someone needs before they’ve figured out how to ask for it — to have the answer ready before it becomes their problem.

In design, that looks like flagging the backordered fixture three weeks before it would have derailed your timeline. It looks like noticing that the layout you fell in love with won’t survive your actual Saturday morning — the one where the grandkids arrive and the dog is underfoot and everyone ends up in the kitchen.

Surprises are coming on every single project. No exceptions. My job is to see them first, so by the time they reach you, they’re already managed. You shouldn’t have to break a sweat.

You’re Not a “Type.” You’re a Person.

Spend enough time working with real, specific, complicated human beings and you lose the ability to treat anyone as a category.

No two clients want the same thing — even when they use the exact same words. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard “timeless” in an initial conversation. And I’ve learned it means something completely different to every single person who says it. Warm neutrals. Dramatic prints and patterns. Just make it still feel expensive in twenty years. All of them said “timeless.”

I learned to arrive with questions, not formulas — and I learned to actively listen to client answers. Your home should be a portrait of how you live. No exceptions.

Here’s My Take

I’ve never believed high volume means more success. For the kind of projects I take on, it’s the opposite.

The most important thing I bring to a home project isn’t taste. It’s the ability to stay calm, stay ahead, and stay the same level of invested from the first conversation to the final installation — no matter what comes up in between.

My prior career gave me thick skin. Sharp instincts. And the kind of guts that don’t get rattled when things get hard — that’s what private-client experience actually teaches.

One Thing I’d Like You to Remember

“The Kate Killeen client experience is the product. Every bit as much as the result.”

The Takeaway

Real Talk: My business isn’t for everyone. Some homeowners want the glitz and glamour of working with the designer whose face is on the cover of Architectural Digest. Totally valid — you do you…

Others want something more personal — a designer whose name is on the door, who leads the work directly, and who’s seen enough high-stakes situations to know the client experience is just as valuable as the result.

I built Kate Killeen Design for those clients. If that sounds like you, I’d love to talk…

I only take on a select number of projects at a time. Contact me to start yours.
